QUICK START
How to edit and join video clips online
Add and arrange clips
Select your video files. Use the timeline arrows to move clips into order, and click a clip to edit it. The timeline plays from the selected clip.
Trim, split and customise
Set each clip’s Start and End times or split at the playhead. Remove unwanted segments. Choose framing, add a title or caption, adjust audio volume, and optionally add background music or a fade through black.
Export your timeline
Choose a shared output size, MP4 or WebM, and a quality setting. Export the timeline and leave the tab open until it finishes. Download the video before closing the page.
Join clips and cut out unwanted sections
Use the editor to combine a short introduction, main scene and ending into one video. Move clips with the arrow controls. To remove material from the middle of a clip, split at the start of the unwanted section, split again at its end, select that segment and remove it.
All clips export onto one canvas. Fit whole video keeps the whole frame and adds black bars if needed. Crop to fill makes the clip cover the canvas, with position controls to keep the subject visible. Choose a vertical, landscape or square preset according to your project.
Add text, background music and simple transitions
Type a title or manual caption for each clip, then choose its size, colour and top, centre or bottom position. The text stays on that clip for its duration. Split a clip when you want the wording to change partway through. Automatic speech transcription and subtitle-file import are not available.
Add a music file you own or have permission to use, and balance its volume against the clips’ original audio. Music starts at the beginning of the exported timeline, plays once and does not automatically loop. A short music file leaves the remainder without background music.
Choose a direct cut or a short fade through black. The fade does not overlap two moving images as a cross-dissolve would. Preview the sequence and inspect the finished export before posting it.
Export settings and practical limits
| Setting | Supported |
|---|---|
| Inputs | MP4, WebM and browser-playable MOV |
| Project limits | Up to 30 clips and 250 MB total source video |
| Background music | One file, up to 30 MB |
| Output | MP4 / H.264 or WebM / VP9, at 30 fps |
| Dimensions | Even numbers from 16 to 1920 pixels per side |
Video export re-encodes the timeline, so processing time and quality depend on the source, settings and device. The optional MB target is approximate. Try shorter projects or smaller dimensions on devices with limited memory. Keep the tab open during export; the processing engine needs an internet connection when first loaded.
Projects are temporary, with no cloud save or editable project download. For a single clip that only needs trimming or compression, open Video Tools. Create a cover image separately in Design Studio.
Frequently asked questions
Is this online video editor free without a watermark?
Yes. Current editing and download features are free, no account is required, and ConvertShorts does not add a watermark.
Can I merge videos with different sizes?
Yes, if your browser can play the source files. Select one output size and choose Fit whole video or Crop to fill for each clip. The exported timeline uses the shared canvas size.
Can I add captions or subtitles automatically?
You can type a manual title or caption for each clip. There is no automatic transcription, timed subtitle track or SRT import. Split a clip to display different text on successive segments.
Can I add music and keep the original sound?
Yes. Add a background music file and adjust its volume independently from each clip’s original audio. Reduce original audio to zero if you only want music. Music plays once rather than looping automatically.
Does it work on mobile or save projects?
The layout adapts to phones, but exporting requires a compatible browser and sufficient memory. A desktop is more practical for longer projects. Projects are not saved: download the completed video before refreshing or leaving.
Is this CapCut or a CapCut integration?
No. This is an independent ConvertShorts video editor with basic timeline controls. It does not connect to CapCut projects, templates or accounts, and does not include advanced AI effects.
